      Hotwire cutters aren't that difficult and expensive to build yourself. I built the structure of mine from MDF and Poplar and used a HobbyCNC Pro kit for the electronics.  Slides are the most difficult. I do NOT recommend drawer slides, way too inaccurate. But an eBay search should find you some that will work. If you are really adventurous you can build your own slides from aluminum channel and rollerblade bearings. That's what I still use for my vertical slides.
