Subject: CIPCA and Project Stepping Stone of Indiana Week
Dear Stephanie and CIPCA,As our Midwest Peace Corps Office kicks off our summer community outreach initiatives we have been informed of a great opportunity for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers in and around the Indianapolis community to become involved with the week of June 16-22nd. The opportunity is with Project Stepping Stone of Indiana in which roughly 80 talented and ambitious 16 to 18 year-old students from around Indiana will embark on a one-week college prep summer program in Indianapolis that assists Hispanic high school students successfully prepare for college and beyond. In line with the third goal of Peace Corps and the commitment to service Returned Peace Corps Volunteers possess, Project Stepping Stone is seeking adult mentors for the young scholars as they participate in many activities throughout the week. What mentors could be better than Returned Peace Corps Volunteers who have seen the world from a global macro and micro level! Returned Peace Corps Volunteers can locate the schedule here and please contact the coordinators Kathy Cabello via phone at 312.209.9991 or you can email Kathy and Dottie Parson at the following addresses:Kathy Cabello: kg_cabello@...Dottie Parson: dorothy.parson@...If you are interested in becoming a adult mentor for the week a convenient background check will need to be conducted (Day 5 of the schedule excluded). I hope all RPCVs can participate in some way whether personally or notifying a colleague or friend of the opportunity. If your employer offers employee volunteer hours/EVP or community give back hours this is a great opportunity for the summer! Please look at your schedules for the summer and see how you can make a difference in the personal and professional development of young scholars in your community as you did during your Peace Corps service. As you come across newly Returned Peace Corps Volunteers please inform them as well. Kathy and Dottie will provide a best date to confirm all volunteers commitment to participate and I have also provided a attachment with additional information.A colleague and I are also attempting to coordinate a Peace Corps Night with the Indianapolis Indians and Indiana Fever on June 21st and 22nd along with a Peace Corps information table at the Eiteljorg Museum’s Annual Indian Market Festival on the 22nd . More details to come on these events.Feel free to contact me if anyone has questions or suggestions.Sincerely,KendrallKendrall Masten - Regional Recruiter, RPCV ZambiaPeace Corps, Midwest Regional Office55 West Monroe Street, Suite 450, Chicago, IL 60603312.353.7747 (direct) | 312.353.4192 (fax) | 855-855-1961, option #3Email: kmasten@...“Peace requires the simple but powerful recognition that what we have in common as human beings is more important and crucial than what divides us.” - Sargent ShriverFollow Peace Corps online:Midwest Peace Corps news and volunteer stories at http://midwestpcvs.wordpress.comHi Kendrall, Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the event.
