I have two double sets of file cabinets. One set holds my sewing/computer table in my closet. (two on either end) The other set (all 4) are in the garage.

I have them in 4 deep 4-drawer filing cabinets, but they overflow into additional bins. I sort into the following broad categories, with some sub categories:

I do some thing similar to Joanne's method. I have a pattern cabinet I bought when Florence Fabrics in Torrance closed, and I have most of my patterns in there

I tend to move my big 3 patterns into letter size mailing envelopes, splitting open the original envelope and taping it to the outside. The larger envelope
