Group Description

CAMRAS stands for C.A. Muller Radio Astronomy Station, in honour of the Dutch radioamateur PA0CAM which for many decades was the technical genius behind the world's oldest 25 meter radioastronmy parabolic antenna, located in Dwingeloo the Netherlands. This radiotelescope has been made available by and for radioamateurs, amateur astronomers and educational organizations such as schools and universities.

Since 2007, the CAMRAS foundation has gathered hundreds of volunteers and financial supporters which help restore this unique parabolic dish with its associated lab. The goals of CAMRAS are: boosting the desire by our youth to learn about technology and science, conserving this historic radiotelescope and making it available for use by amateurs.

Over the last years the electromechanical and electronic systems has gotten an impressive overhaul and new receivers are currently often connected to the internet and all over the world one can tap in to the stream of radioastronomical data generated by this unique setup.

Also, when radioamateurs are bouncing their signals from the Moon, one can in real time enjoy this very special way of radiocommunication by means of a technology called 'WebSDR" which has been specifically developped for this application.

More information on CAMRAS can be found on www.camras.nl
