7,000 Least Storm-Petrels at the Thirty Mile Bank - L.A. County
Saturday's Buena Vista Audubon Society pelagic trip to the Thirty Mile Bank on 9 Oct 2010 re-found an enormous storm-petrel rafts of 10,000 birds at the Thirty Mile Bank. Black, Least and Ashy Storm-Petrels were seen in both San Diego and Los Angeles Counties. We also enjoyed a Long-tailed Jaeger, American and Black Oystercatchers, 3 species of shearwaters, dozens of Common Dolphins bow riding and a close Fin Whale.
Trip description, trip track and species list now posted, the photos and videos will come after the Western Field Ornithologists convention in Palm Desert where San Diego's own Paul E. Lehman is the featured keynote Saturday evening.
Buena Vista Audubon Society has one more pelagic this year to the Nine Mile and Coronados Islands to see what boobies are hanging out at Booby Rock.
