International Bird Rescue & Research Center based in Cordelia, CA. has a team of over twenty trained people working for the past four weeks with the oiled birds caught in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The team is led by Jay Holcomb-Exec. Director. Additional staff from San Pedro and Alaska are also in the Gulf.

Some of the bird species at risk along the fragile gulf coast include Louisiana's state bird, the Brown Pelican, Royal Terns, Caspian Terns, Beach-nesting shorebirds: American Oystercatcher, Wilson's Plover, Snowy Plover; Marsh birds: Mottled Duck, Clapper Rail, Black Rail, Seaside Sparrow.
Jay Holcomb was just named Oceana's Ocean Hero for 2010. Here is the most recent update from the center - http://intbirdrescue.blogspot.com/2010/06/ibrrcs-jay-holcomb-earns-ocean-hero.html
