Jim Abernathy, leading 20 members of the southwest Bird Study Club this
morning, found a YELLOW-BILLED LOON active in the south end of the Lagoon
(lower lake) in the Castaic Lake Recreation Area. The bird was frequenting
the southern third of the lagoon and was well seen, with and without scopes,
from the boat launch area and fishing pier on the east side of the lake
between 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM. The bird does spend a lot of time underwater
when actively feeding, traveling some distance before re-surfacing, so be
patient if you try to refind the bird. Some people were still there after
1:30. I will post a picture or two later. Some phone calls were made from
the site to get the word out.

      Good Birding!

      Jim
