29 Apr-5 May Kern Valley Nature Fest
The 15th Annual Kern River Valley Spring Nature Festival will be held
29 Apr-5 May 09 with festival headquarters at Audubon-California's
Kern River Preserve, South Fork Kern River Valley, Southern Sierra
Nevada (surrounded by Sequoia National Forest).
Go to: http://kern.audubon.org/KRVSNFactivities.htm
for festival offerings in brief and links to detailed field trip
descriptions and the festival's home page.
Contact Bob Barnes at bbarnes@... for further field trip
information and registration assistance. Contact Alison Sheehey,
Festival Coordinator, at natureali@... for all other festival
aspects (activities, dinners, exhibits, music, workshops, etc.).
There are still one or more spaces available on 36 of 50 field trips
currently offered. And, if there is demand, several additional field
trip sections can be added.
For the first time, an Eastern Sierra pre-festival trip (26-29 Apr)
will cover major birding sites in Inyo and Mono County and a Central
Coast post-festival trip (5-8 May) will cover major birding sites in
San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura County. A visit to Santa
Cruz Island will be part of the Central Coast trip as well.
FYI: Species diversity and numbers of individuals have been excellent
at past festival. For example, 245 species were recorded during the
2008 festival including 231 on formal field trips and 14 during
independent birding during comings and goings.
