Re: Putative] Lesser Black-backed Gull - Watsonville
- Here in the UK this bird would not be identidied as a Lesser Black-backed Gull and would probably go unnoticed amongst the many Herring Gulls here, there are to many pro Herring Gull features.
Lesser Black-backed of the race Graellsii should appear overall darker, more dusky with more uniform patterned, less obvious barred wing coverts. The largely pale bill on this bird is also not overly supportive of LBBGull and the primaries not long enough beyond the tertials, at least in the photos. The broad pale tips to the tertials are also not good for LBBGull whilst the overall feel is Herring rather then LBBGull.
