A GRACE'S WARBLER was discovered in Mendocino County on 31 December by
Dave Shuford. It has been seen by many others on 1 & 2 January 2009
(but not on 3 Jan). Go to Rd. 500 D, just north of Jack Peter's
Bridge, which is just north of the town of Mendocino on the west side
of Highway 1 ... on all three observation days it was found in a mixed
flock of Pygmy Nuthatches, Townsend's Warblers, Chestnut-backed
Chickadees, and sometimes Yellow-rumped Warblers on the west side of
the Road 500D. This is a small peninsula with scattered pines. Go to
the end of Road D where it ends on Russian Gulch State park property
and then walk back (south) 100 yards. Search
mendobirds@yahoogroups.com for recent reports and details. This bird
has possibilities of spending the winter in this vicinity.
