The past two afternoons have been very good for seawatching from Pt. Pinos
is Monterey. A strong cold front with blustery NW winds put lots of
tubenoses near shore. Good numbers of jaegers and multiple skuas. Also the
best flight of Buller's Shearwaters I've seen from shore yet. Overall a
great seawatch on the 9th and a more modest showing today. I put up some
photos, most of which are soft due to the distance, but fun nonetheless.
      The gallery is here:

The full checklist from the 9th is below. This was two hours of counting
      from 3-5 PM.

      Location: Pt. Pinos--Seawatch
      Observation date: 10/9/08
Notes: Strong NW winds produced the best seawatch of the year so far.
Most birds moving west southwest into the wind. Good looks at South Polar
Skua from shore! The best flight of Buller's I've seen from shore as well.
