The San Diego Bird Festival's Rare Bird Chase trip met the heralded
invading hordes of American Robins today at the Mission Dam area of
Mission Trails Regional Park. 100+ were seen perched and flying over the
east end near the gate. This was probably the most noteworthy sighting
among the 86 species seen today. At Lindo Lake County Park the Vermilion
Flycatcher and Swamp Sparrow were in their usual spots at the east end of
the lake. At Greenwood Cemetery the Western Kingbird was seen on the west
side but other rarities were not. There were two Reddish Egrets on the
San Diego River Floodway near Robb Field. The Harlequin Duck was feeding
on eelgrass along the west shoreline at De Anza Cove and a first-winter
Glaucous-winged Gull was seen on the beach near the small parking lot
      east of the cove.
