      Hi Birders!

Here's an invitation reminder to an event Los Angeles Audubon is
sponsoring January 11-12, 2008. Don't miss out, as there are a few
      spaces still available!

      Friday & Saturday, January 11&12, 2008

Slaty-backed Gull Workshop with lecture by Jon Dunn, and field trips
with Jon Dunn, and Dan Singer and Todd Easterla. Extensive lecture at
the Comfort Inn in Half-Moon Bay Friday from 7:30AM until 12:30PM
with a short break, then look through gulls at nearby Venice Beach
after the lecture, and most of the day Saturday. Informal gull
watching Sunday morning if there is interest. Sunday morning back-up
date for field trip in case of rain. A Friday lecture will give us
the best chance to see thousands of gulls, and to possibly study rare
gulls like Slaty-backed, as the nearby dump is closed on Sunday, and
the loafing gulls at the beach thin out. No guarantees, of course,
but Thayers and Glaucous probable; perhaps hybrids such as Nelsons,
and all of the more common gulls abundant. Most Slaty-backed Gull
records for the lower 48 states have been at this beach in this time
frame, a number each year recently, so we do have a real chance of
finding one! $80 for workshop with field trips. 25 max. To sign up
and receive further details, send SASE to LA Audubon, P.O. Box
931057, Los Angeles, CA 90093; with name, check, e-mail and phone
number. For further details, see website at www.LAAudubon.org.

It will be another fun-laced, fact-filled event that we hope you can
      attend.
