      Birders,

Decisions reached recently by the California Bird Records Committee add two new species to the California state list:

Townsend's Shearwater (Puffinus auricularis) was accepted on the basis of a bird found in Del Mar SD 01 Aug 2007 and taken to rehab where measured and photographed (CBRC #2007-156). The Committee agreed that this bird was assignable to the Hawaiian subspecies P. a. newelli (often called the "Newell's Shearwater" and considered a separate species by some authorities).

Lesser Frigatebird (Fregata ariel) was accepted on the basis of an immature seen and photographed near Arcata HUM 15 Jul 2007 (CBRC #2007-153)

With the addition of these two species, the California state list now stands at 635 species.

Potential additions to the state list currently under review are: Tristram's Storm-Petrel, Swallow-tailed Kite, Eurasian Kestrel, Wood Sandpiper, Great Black-backed Gull, Yellow Grosbeak and Common Rosefinch.
