Volunteers are needed to survey all possible wintering sites in LA
County for populations of threatened Western Snowy Plover (Charadrius
alexandrinus nivosus) to collect data for U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
and California Fish & Game Commission on the status of this species. The
survey has traditionally been led by Santa Monica Bay Audubon Society
and is now joined by Los Angeles Audubon Society in a partnership with
SWCA Environmental Consultants and the wildlife agencies to survey,
monitor and protect Snowy Plovers and Least Terns on LA County Beaches
throughout the wintering and breeding seasons, and to maximize efforts
of public education and outreach.
Leaders and participants from past efforts by SM Bay Audubon are needed
as team leaders.

(Santa Monica Beach parking lot No.7, ¼ mile north of California
ramp/first light north of tunnel. Also "Back at the Beach"
restaurant.. SM Bay Audubon will provide parking arrangements.)

Volunteers will be required to participate in orientation and perform a
minimum of one survey day.
