Parkinson's Petrel added to California state list
The record of a Parkinson's Petrel (Procellaria parkinsoni) which was
seen and photographed off Pt. Reyes MRN on 01 October 2005 (CBRC
#2005-129) was unanimously accepted by the California Bird Records
Committee. Acceptance of this record adds another species to the
California bird species list, which now stands at 632. This species,
the first of its genus to be verified for California, is placed on the
California checklist between Bulwer's Petrel and Streaked Shearwater.
Note that some authorities, including the recently published "Birds of
the World: Recommended English Names," use the name "Black Petrel"
rather than "Parkinson's Petrel" for this species.
