      Hi, Seabirders,

This is a late report of the Shearwater Journeys' October 22, 2006
pelagic trip from Monterey. Highlights included a massive mixed species
feeding flock which was composed mostly of CALIFORNIA GULLS (20,000),
WESTERN GULLS (5000) and many shearwaters. Very small fish were clearly
visible in the water. This huge flock extended some three miles. A
record 31 FLESH-FOOTED SHEARWATERS were found. As many as four
Flesh-footed Shearwaters were in view at once. This was a careful
count, but may be underestimated, if anything. It was mindboggling.
Other highlights included: 1 MANX SHEARWATER, 109 arriving BONAPARTE'S
GULLS, and, likely the last SABINE'S GULL for the season, and the first
ANCIENT MURRELET of the winter season. It was a nice mix of departing
fall seabirds, and arriving winter seabirds.

The leaders on this trip were: Clay Kempf, David Vander Pluym, Denise
Wight, Linda Terrill, Scott Terrill, and Debra Shearwater. Our chummer
was Oscar Johnson. Many, many thanks to all of those who participated
      in this trip.
