mystery EMPID photos up-loaded
- I've up-loaded the 2 photos to "Flycatchers" folder in the Photos section.
These were only 2 I could get of the EMPIDONAX sp. I reported yesterday
near Sand Canyon on Santa Clara River, LA County...
Note the dark tip of bill [Gray Flycatcher], which I did not notice while fumbling
with camera MUCH closer than these shots were made... Other features are
what they are... Also, ignore color shift in 2 images, something the camera
does when flash is used (the yellower one; bluer is natural light)...
I did not notice any particular tail movements, though it did NOT flip like P-s,
nor up then down, only some minor movements -- the bird flew into mulefat
and perched at odd angle with tail resting on twig behind, then flew out as
quickly to more distant spots -- high overhead sun and glare, combined with
mediocre eye-sight made it hard to find the bird, and once found, I was
focused on getting at least these crummy shots, and failed to note more.
Finally, because I thought I noticed rufous on two primaries (where Dusky
capped might have it) when the bird was closer (through binos), and while it
was perched in Mulefat, which could have been dead leaf in front of bird
playing color tricks (it happened that quickly before the bird flew away from
me, leaving me only these disappointing images)... anyway, please let me
know if this is EVEN an Empid! Thanks! And, happier Traillii's...
