Thanks to everyone who took the trouble to look at my pictures. Not suprisingly the "peep" sandpiper produced the most disagreement, but the picture wasn't really clear enough.
Regarding a couple of points raised, Redwood Shores is on a peninsular into the bay about 10 miles south of San Francisco airport. The rail was seen along Belmont Slough, about halfway between Oracle and Shearwater Parkway. I have to admit, the "Dickcissel" was a very tentative ID on a brief view of a sparrow/finch with a bit of yellow about it; I'll put this one down as a don't know.
Now, got a few more to ID if anyone wants another go. The pictures for these are at http://www.wrights.me.uk/malcolm/birds/redwood2.htm
And a couple I didn't get any shots of:
On the bus along Half Moon Bay, we went past a largish hawk sitting on a utilities pole. There was a lot of red about it, so a Red Shouldered Hawk perhaps. Shame the pole wasn't next to the bus stop to give me time for a proper look.
In Redwood Shores, a smallish sparrow like bird, yellowish moustache and generally streaky about the face, but it had its tail cocked in wren-like fashion.
In San Francisco now and hoping to get some time in Golden Gate park and the coast from there around to Lands End tomorrow for my last day.
