Blue-tagged bald eagle at Goose Lake
In 2002 the Institute for Wildlife Studies began a bald eagle
reintroduction project on the northern Channel Islands off the coast
of southern California. We put GPS transmitters on all of the young
birds before we released them. One of the birds flew to the mainland
two months after being released and flew straight to Goose Lake in
northeastern California. The bird spent a few months there before we
lost its signal in December. We had one second-hand report of a
sighting of this bird in December at Goose Lake. The bird is a one-
year old bald eagle with blue wing markers with the number '12'
painted in black on the markers. It may or may not still be carrying
its backpack transmitter. If anyone has any information/sightings
for this bird please contact Jessica Dooley by e-mail
(dooley@...) or phone (805-989-1544).
