The San Juan Capistrano CBC in south Orange County, California, was
held yesterday, the 20th. The Marine Institute provided us their
research boat for the count, which we very much appreciated and hope
that will continue in the future. About 60 people + helped with the
count. Unofficial totals gave us 151 species of birds. Highlights
included a Yellow-footed Gull (first seen on the 19th, pictures posted
at: http://members.cox.net/orcorba/) and Prairie Warbler, both at
Doheny State Beach in Dana Point. A Zone-tailed Hawk was present over
Casper's Regional Park off of Ortega Highway. Other birds of note
included Swamp Sparrow, Lewis's Woodpeckers, a number of Merlins, and
Plumbeous Vireo. Joel Weintraub, Dana Point, CA
