Spent the weekend at Little Mt. Hoffman lookout northeast of Mt. Shasta
      and west of Medicine Lake.
The resident Blue Grouse were very friendly. The male struts along the
      roof of the restroom.
Watched a great V of Canada Geese flying south past Mt. Shasta. Others
birds on Little Mt. Hoffman included: Townsend's Solitaire,
      Yellow-rumped Warbler, Dark-eyed Junco (Oregon), Steller's Jay, Clark's
Nutcracker, Raven, Northern Flicker, Mountain Chickadee, Red-breasted
      Nuthatch, Fox Sparrow.

At Orr Lake, north of Mt. Shasta & south of Macdoel, near Bray, CA, saw:
Bald Eagle, Great Blue Heron, American Coot, Pied-billed Grebe, Wood
Duck, Shoveler, Townsend's Solitaire, Black-billed Magpie.

At Juanita Lake, west of Macdoel, a Common Loon worked the lake from on
end to the other along with a Pied-billed Grebe. A pair of Pileated
Woodpecker worked the snags near the dam. Also present were Mountain
Chickadee, Red-breasted Nuthatch, Raven, Steller's Jay, Dark-eyed Junco,
      and Spotted Towhee.

At Deep Crater, south of Burnt Lava Flow, saw a Green-tailed Towhee.
Deep Crater is very interesting but hard to get to and very hard on the
      vehicle. The roads are overgrown.
      Good birding to all,
      Larry Siemens
