The highlight of today's Fresno Audubon field trip to the Moen Ranch
was a first winter female Blackpoll Warbler, a first record for
Madera County. The bird was seen in a large Valley Oak which also
      had Yellow-rumped, Townsend's, Black-throated Gray, Orange-crowned,
Yellow, and Hermit Warblers. The bird had a dull yellow throat and
breast fading to lighter yellow belly, and white undertail coverts.
The dark gray wings had distinct whitish wing bars. The breast and
flanks showed faint streaking. The back was difficult to see as the
bird was high in the tree, but appeared to be olive gray with faintl
streaking. A darkish line through the eye split a very faint
yellowish eyering. The Identification was made by Frank Gibson (who
had just seen his first Blackpoll a week ago at Galileo Hill), Kay
      Barnes, and me. --Gary
