Seen at noon and around 5 between Hammond Bridge and the Mad River County
Park boat ramp. This is a half-mile reach of river. The greenshank was
said to be in with a 'large' flock of tringines (told to me at 6 tonight by
Nick Freeman of L.A., one of a party of three who observed it) on little
islands and bars in the Mad River, initially seen from the bridge.

School Road may continue to be the best bet, but to get the site described
above, take the Giuntoli Lane exit off 101 n. of Arcata, first right onto
Heindon, 0.3 to Miller, 0.7 to Mad River, 1.7 to the dogleg at which Hammond
Bridge is seen and easily accessed. The river is fun birding, there's no
traffic, it's quiet, and the riparia along the river and in the county park
can have little flocks of chickadees and warblers to look through.
Afternoon on clear days is normally too windy for passerine birding.

Access to the river shore below the boat ramp is done by taking a trail
through the willows beginning at the northwest corner of the county park
parking lot. Do not leave valuables in sight, as break-ins happen.

There was a Sharp-tail report from two days ago from School Road. A Ruff
      was also seen there today.

Another Ruff was on Humboldt Bay flats between the Marsh Project and sewage
      ponds both at the hour of 'disappearing' mudflats (2 hrs before high water;
noon today) and 'reappearing' flats (2 hrs after high; 5:00 today). A
flock of several hundred godwits there today also had 3 Pecs, five knots,
and a curlew. Check the Times-Standard (local rag) tide tables if you want
      to hit it right.
