A NUTTING'S FLYCATCHER was found by Michelle Scott on 1/1/03 at 1425 Laurel
St. in Santa Cruz. The ID was largely worked out by Steve Gerow on 1/2, and
it was confirmed by several observers today. Please see below for details
about viewing access, and we hope all will be respectful of the wishes of the
property owners. (Stay out of the backyard; keep to the street and the
unpaved driveway to the left of the house.)

From Highway One (aka Mission St) at the west side of Santa Cruz, take Laurel
St. north (inland). Go past King St., then look for 1425 Laurel on the left,
with a few olive trees and a hedge in the front yard.

In addition to Michelle's info given below, I might add that today it was
present in or around the front of 1425 Laurel for a short time at 9:30 a.m.,
then not again until around 12:30 p.m. Then it made three prolonged
appearances between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m., with gaps of 10-30 min. between
showings. So patience has paid off. It has also been seen across the street
from 1425 Laurel, and is visiting other yards nearby (to which there is no
birder access). It is eating olives and flycatching. During some appearances
it called often, other times seldom.
