If anyone is interested in seeing a Reddish Egret in a less urban
environment than the L.A. River, there are currently two REEGs (1 adult, 1
immature) at Mugu Lagoon in Ventura County. I observed the immature bird
this morning around 8:15 AM. To get to mugu lagoon, exit the 101 freeway at
Las Posas Road in Camarillo, drive south to highway 1, turn left (south) and
continue about 2 miles until you see a sign pointing towards a wildlife
viewing platform on your right. The birds are usually seen on a rising tide
between the viewing platform and the firing range about 1 mile farther south
along the road. Your best bet is to drive along the edge of the highway and
stop every 1/4 mile or so to scan the marsh.
