      >Subject: [SDBIRDS] Curlew Sandpiper at San Elijo Lagoon
      >The Curlew Sandpiper first reported by Brennon Mulroony about 11:30am on the
      >north side of the lagoon was also seen and idependantly identified by two of
      >us from the south side of the lagoon at about noon. It was subsequently seen
      >periodically all afternoon by a number of birders. It was moving back and
      >forth across the lagoon, sometimes most visable from the north side,
      >sometimes lost in the center, and sometimes visable from the south side.
      >North Side access: Southwestern-most point of the nature trail at the San
      >Elijo Lagoon Nature Center. From I-5 freeway take Manchester Ave. offramp
      >and proceed west about 1 mile. The Nature Center parking lot is on the
      >lagoon side of the road, directly opposite the San Elijo JPA Water Treatment
      >South side access: From I-5 freeway take Lomas Santa Fe Drive west to Rios
      >Ave. Turn right (north) on Rios Ave. and drive to northern terminus. Walk
      >down dirt road, past metal gate, and follow trail out to end of sand
      >pennisula that sticks out in to the mudflat.
      >Bird is in partial breeding plumage. All rust throat and breast (but not
      >head), with distinctive white rump and lower belly. Bill noticably long and
      >slightly downcurved. Generally in pressence of Western Sandpipers and
      >assorted plovers.
