      Howdy, Birders,

Recent highlights from a day of birding San Benito County on 20 December with Kent Johnson included stops at:

Santa Ana Valley & John Smith Roads= 5 FERRUGINOUS HAWKS, including one dark morph
Paicines Reservoir= 2 adult BALD EAGLES + assorted waterfowl
      Panoche Road= 2 LEWIS'S WOODPECKERS, RED-NAPED SAPSUCKER, PRAIRIE FALCON
      Panoche Valley= 120 MOUNTAIN PLOVERS + BADGER

A complete trip report, including links to eBird checklists, notes and sighting details, for each stop, is available at:

Notable negative data= no sightings of Mountain Bluebirds.

IF you are an eBirder, and I hope you are, PLEASE strive for accuracy in your reports, especially "location." Please use eBird hotspots whenever possible. You can make your data more valuable, especially for conservation usage, by submitting a "complete checklist" rather than an "incidental" report. This would be especially appreciated with regard to MOUNTAIN PLOVERS. The eBird reviewer for San Benito County requires that Mountain Plovers be counted, one-by-one, and not estimated. It does not take a lot more effort to do this.

      Do it for the birds!
      Happy Trails,
      Debi Shearwater
