Dan Cooper found 58 CA Least Terns and then LA Audubon biologist Tom Ryan discovered 7 one-egg nests yesterday within the symbolic fenced area that LA Audubon has erected for Snowy Plovers in partnership with the SHARE OUR SEAS & SHORES conservation priority program of Audubon and California State Parks.

This is the first nesting record for California Least Tern in Malibu Lagoon since 1940.

LA Audubon, California State Parks, California Department of Fish & Wildlife and others are working now to protect the nesting site from disturbance from beachgoers, dogs, predators and other potential impacts.

      Very exciting news!

      Please don't disturb the birds.
