- Had a delightful hike today (Sun., June 9) with perfect weather along the Burkhart trail, from Buckhorn Campground (about 34 miles north of La Canada on Hwy. 2) to Cooper Canyon. Much evidence of breeding birds (juveniles, courtship displays, singing males, adults carrying food), particularly at the beginning of the trail (MacGillivray's and Audubon's Warblers, Green-tailed Towhees, Fox Sparrows, Purple Finches) and near Cooper Canyon falls (Red Crossbill-pair, Brown Creepers, Western Tanagers, Western Wood-Peewee, Pacific-slope Flycatcher, and a number of others).
Many birds were singing and active well past noon.
