      Birders,

The record of the widely-seen Common Cuckoo (Cuculus canorus) at Watsonville, Santa Cruz Co. 28 Sep-2 Oct 2012 has been accepted by the CBRC. The species is added to the official state list at the beginning of the cuckoos (family Cuculidae), thus residing between Ruddy Ground-Dove and Yellow-billed Cuckoo on the species list. It is annotated with an asterisk (on the CBRC review list) and a "P" code (photographed).

This brings the California state list to 649 (or possibly to 650 or 651, depending on how the CBRC resolves issues surrounding the Taiga/Tundra Bean-Goose and the Common Crane at its annual meeting later this week). News from the CBRC's annual meeting will be posted early next week.
