Subject: [CVBirds] VEERY at Grasslands Park, Yolo Co.

This morning I found a VEERY at Grasslands Park (Mace/Rd 104 and Tremont
      south of Davis).

The bird was in the row of dense thickets near archery link #27 in the NE
quadrant of the park (left as you enter). There was one archer there, so be
careful to stay up-range of the targets. I suspect the bird may stay near
this spot, as it is usually attractive to birds.

Compared to Swainson's Thrush (which are common here in spring migration),
this bird was quite orangey in tone, had a different breast speckling (some
tiny dark-orange squares, verses larger blacker circles on Swainson's), and
had a different face pattern (larger paler area around the eye, off-setting
a darker orange crown; but not the buffy spectacled look of Swainson's).

Unfortunately, it did not call (but I suggest bringing a recording of the
call) and I did not manage a photo before it gave me the slip.

      Also present were about 6 Pacific-slope Flycatchers, 1 Ash-throated Fly, 1
      Yellow Warbler.

I would love it if someone could obtain a photo. Given the weather, birding
      should be possible all day.

      good luck,
