Bloomberg.com has an interesting article today on the millions of birds that are drawn to their deaths each year as a result of the disorienting effect from lights on communication towers. They recount a night of dense fog and snow in western Kansas on Jan 22, 1998, when 10,000 Lapland Longspurs met their deaths by slamming into a 420-foot tower, its guy wires, each other and the ground. Sad stuff. The FCC may or may not be foot-dragging in dealing with the issue. [End of thread]
