      Our warmest greetings.

The Philippines is a country where over 80 per cent of the populations are Catholics. The strong Catholic upbringing of Filipinos has shaped popular thinking and beliefs especially on matters of population, family planning and reproductive health (RH).  But over time, more and more Filipino Catholics from various sectors of society are supporting the call for improved policies on RH, family planning, and population and development.

Fighting for Reproductive Health Rights and being Catholic is a struggle for many RH advocates. The battle is not just in the halls of Congress but in the media and in our communities. However, in a national survey conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) in 2008, 71 per cent of Filipinos expressed support for the RH Bill while only 8 per cent are against it. More than 90 per cent of the respondents are Catholics. It is about time that the true voices of Catholics are heard on the matter.

It is for this reason that various civil society organizations from across the country have come together in organizing a National Conference of Catholics for Reproductive Health on 17 March 2011 from 9am to 4pm at the GT Toyota Asian Center in UP Diliman, Quezon City.  This event will be simulcast in gatherings  in Cebu, Tacloban, Davao and Baguio City as well community based gatherings in 11 provinces of the country.   Through a web based program, the event will also be viewed by Filipino Catholics through the internet worldwide.  The main objective of this one day forum is to bring out the voices of Filipino Catholics by providing a venue for them and Catholic clergies to exchange valuable Catholic experiences and views on the issues around reproductive health.

As a Catholic, we would like to invite you to participate in this unprecedented event which will be held on 17 March at 8am to 4pm at the GT Toyota Asian Center in UP Diliman, Quezon City.

      Thank you.
