- "SCA to ban use of French language
Following the recent behaviour of the French on the UN Security Council, the
executive board of the Society for Creative Anachronism in the US have
decided to ban the use of French within the organisation with immediate
effect. A spokesman said that since in medieval times French was both the
language of diplomacy and of chivalry, it seemed doubly inappropriate to
allow it to still be used after the events of recent months.
SCA heralds are currently expunging all French terminology from their web
site - terms such as Gules, Argent and Vert are to be replaced with proper
English equivalents [heraldic pun intended] whilst all medieval personae
with French names - such as Sir Poisson d'Avril are to be required to
anglicise them before they will be allowed to enter further tourneys.
Saxons within the society are reported to be absolutely delighted. "About
time something was done about those poncy Normans" said one."
