      For Immediate Release

10th Police involved shooting this year claims yet another life Systematic
Human Rights Violations Rampant Within San Diego Police Department

On Wednesday May 29th at approximately 6:30pm the second police involved
shooting in a day killed an African-American on the corner of Weightman and
37th Street in the City Heights community of San Diego. A preliminary
investigation by the Raza Rights Coalition indicates another case of police
      violence against communities of color.

According to witnesses, an African-American individual crashed his vehicle
with a parked car near the intersection of 37th and Weightman. As the
African American walked away from the incident with a kitchen type knife, a
female officer shot al least 3 rounds in the back of this person mortally
      wounding the individual.

This shooting, the second within 24 hours, becomes the 10th San Diego Police
involved shooting this year. We raise serious concern on the regularity in
which these shootings are occurring and call the question on the criteria
used when using lethal force with white people vis-à-vis communities of
color. There is substantial evidence that indicate separate protocols, as
white people are usually shot using non-lethal force, while people of color
      usually end up dead.

The Raza Rights Coalition will be discussing this latest, and other cases of
police violence, at a Community Forum on Friday May 31st at the Joyce Beers
Center in Hillcrest organized by the San Diego Action Center.

The Raza Rights Coalition will continue investigating this latest murder and
will release further information as it becomes available.
