      Virginians for Comprehensive Immigration Reform

      Strategy Meeting

WHAT: These days the debate over immigration reform has taken center stage in Washington DC and nationwide. Members of both parties in the U.S. Senate have issued guiding principles on immigration reform that have been the current framework for discussion of possible legislation as well as the recently received plan from the Obama administration.

WHO: Virginia Immigrant rights advocates and allies

GOALS: Over the past several years, we Virginians worked together to push back anti-immigrant legislation that would have put our state on a path similar to Arizona and other states that have passed harsh anti-immigrant laws. Our efforts have stemmed the anti-immigrant wave in our state but much more needs to be done. We need a federal solution to this issue that will finally provide real relief to millions of immigrant families in Virginia and across the country.  Today we have a real chance at obtaining this goal via the passage of Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR). As the debate concerning CIR heats up, we, the residents of Virginia, must assume an active role to make sure that our concerns about CIR’s development are included.

As part of this process, we are holding our first strategy meeting that will bring together immigrant rights advocates and allies from across the state to come together to discuss and hopefully come to a consensus concerning principles that we would like to guide the debate about CIR. We will also formulate a strategy for reaching out to Virginia’s residents to educate and create awareness about the urgency of passing CIR legislation now as well as push for the principles inclusion in the CIR debate in Washington via advocacy of Virginia’s federal elected representatives.

      WHEN: Saturday, March 9, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. (Registration begins at 12:30pm)

      REGISTRESE AHORA
