It’s David versus Goliath as Florida tomato pickers--who average $7,500 per year, take on Taco Bell--which made over $5 billion. The Coalition of Immokalee Workers says that Taco Bell could bring farmworkers’ wages up to a living wage if they would pay just one penny more per pound of tomatoes.
For the last 6 weeks, activists in Los Angeles have maintained energetic weekly pickets at a Taco Bell on the eastside. Tomato-shaped picket signs tell the story of corporate greed and the struggle of immigrant workers for fairness. Community support is strong, with non-stop car horns honking encouragement. Potential customers are routinely turned away, many pledging their support. It’s time to turn up the heat for the Labor Day weekend!
Demonstrators are preparing a big welcome when the farmworkers’ 10 city "National Truth Tour" winds up in Los Angeles on the 23rd of September. The next day will be a huge protest at Taco Bell World Headquarters in Irvine. Say NO to sweatshops in the fields, BOYCOTT TACO BELL.
