Office space allocated for agents in Columbus

Border Patrol agents will have office space at the Columbus , N.M. , port of entry, according to the office of U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M.
Customs and Border Protection, the parent agency of the Border Patrol, allocated $700,000 to build a temporary module at the busy border crossing, according to Domenicis office. The Border Patrol station is based in Deming, and the agency already has one facility in Columbus , 3 miles from the port of entry.
State police increase patrols near Columbus

COLUMBUS , N.M. New Mexico State Police have stepped up patrols along the border town of Columbus .
Maj. Robert Cron says its an effort to stop property and violent crime that has risen in the areas in the past 5 years.
Response time to reports of crimes will be five to 15 minutes, he told residents during a recent meeting in the town.
