Fwd: Urge Congress to Pass the AgJobs Bill
- A broad-based national coalition of farm worker organizations,
labor unions, agricultural employers, immigrant advocates, and
supporters need your help in urging Congress to enact the
historic AgJobs legislation. It would allow undocumented farm
workers to earn the legal right to permanently stay in this
country by continuing to work in agriculture.
AgJobs is ready to go and could be passed this year. You can
help by urging your U.S. senators and representatives to support
this meaningful immigration reform measure.

----THIS LETTER WILL BE SENT IN YOUR NAME----
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
Please cosponsor the Agricultural Job Opportunity, Benefits, and
Security Act, the AgJobs bill, S.1645 (by Sens. Craig and
Kennedy) and H.R. 3142 (by Reps. Berman and Cannon). It would
give agricultural employers a legal and stable work force by
allowing many undocumented farm workers to earn the right to
become legal immigrants by continuing to work in agriculture.
This historic compromise between farm worker organizations,
labor unions, agricultural employers and immigrant advocates is
endorsed by major agribusiness groups, the AFL-CIO, unions such
as the United Farm Workers and Farm Labor Organizing Committee,
and Latino civil rights organizations such as the National
Council of La Raza.
AgJobs has wide bipartisan support. Senate Majority Leader Bill
Frist says he will put the bill on the calendar for
consideration if there is enough support. House Speaker Dennis
Hastert also backs the bill. The goal is to gain at least 60
Senate cosponsors, half Democrat and half Republican. As of
March 1, 2004, there are 51 in the Senate plus 90 in the House.
This compromise is based on concessions by all sides in the
debate. Please become a cosponsor of S. 1645 or H.R. 3142. It is
fair to both workers and employers, consistent with national
security needs and makes sensible government policy.
