      Islamic Center to offer tours

The Islamic Center of Hawthorne will hold an open mosque day in late August
to introduce non-Muslims to Islamic faith and culture.

The event Aug. 20 will feature tours of the Islamic Center, displays and a
free barbecue lunch. Its theme will be, "Friends and neighbors: Let us meet
      and know each other."

The center has asked churches, synagogues and other places of worship to
encourage their congregations to attend. It is organizing the event in
coordination with the Shura Council of Southern California.

The center is at 12209 Hawthorne Way in Hawthorne, near the corner of El
Segundo Boulevard and behind a Hometown Buffet. The open mosque event will
      run from 1 to 4 p.m.
