Group Description

WELCOME! The object of this group is to discuss and explore the life and times of William T. "Bloody Bill" Anderson of Randolph County, Missouri, who died during the Civil War in 1864, and the life and times of William Columbus "Uncle Billy" Anderson, who in 1924 announced he was "Bloody Bill" to a local newspaper in TX.

We offer evidence William C Anderson may have believed he earned the title "Bloody Bill" during the short time he was caught up in the Civil War in MO. At the time of William C Anderson's story, an attempt was made to verify the truth of his statement, but this group has not found the outcome of that investigation that reached from TX back to MO, to some who knew Bloody Bill before he was killed in 1864.

Using today's resources that were not available in the 1920s, this group has found William C Anderson was not the Bloody Bill that history identifies as William T Anderson. This was accomplished in part, and probably most importantly, by identifying and following the two William Anderson's families and their migrations, using PRIMARY documents and records, made at the time the event took place in history. These documents and records include census images, probate records, land records, tax records, marriage certificates, death certificates, newspaper stories reporting the death of Bloody Bill's family members, (yep, we used newspaper stories!) and records of his own death. Numerous Anderson family histories and files, and local county histories also confirm William C Anderson's ancestry and descendants. This group has found no descendants for Bloody Bill.

For an easy outline of our evidence, see message #495 and 496.

We may be a small group, but as you will see, we have been very effective in our project to show how we came to the conclusion that the William C Anderson/Bloody Bill Mystery was solved all along, not by this group, but by the two men themselves!

OUR MOTTO: "IT IS HISTORY, AFTER ALL, IT WON'T BE CHANGING!"
