Though it is a bit of a trek there is a wonderful combo of two rare birds in the Vancouver BC area currently. A Red-flanked Bluetail is residing in Queens Park in New Westminster and a Brambling in Vancouver. I made the long trek today and was successful on both. From Yakima it is a 5 hour drive including about a 10-20 minute wait at the border. Check Tweeters if you want updates or more precise directions. The Bluetail is the more rare species, with this being the first mainland record outside of Alaska (there are two records for California Islands). It has been a good winter for Bramblings with multiple birds showing up in BC and the one briefly seen in Birch Bay, WA.
