- Hola amigos:
Elizabeth and I went to Lateral C and came back up through the Old
Goldendale Road. It was 4:00 to 6:00 pm today, July 4th.
We saw 3 great egret nests. The main one had 3 young birds, that actively
fed from the open beak of the adult that flew into the nest. Probably mom!
Another nest had 2 young ones. The third nest is so hidden that I couldn't
get a count of young, but it had adults.
At the first pond (east side) after you trun onto Old Goldendale Road from
Pumphoudse Road, we stopped and were surprised to see a Western Wood Peewee.
We also saw an adult red-tail and an immature red-tail calling out and
circling right over us. Also saw the typical: turkey vulture, red-wing
blackbirds, western king-bird, eastern king-bird, kestrel, great blue
herons, harriers, song sparrow, house sparrows, robins, swallows &
The adult great heron was feeding at a pond about 1/2 mile to the west on
the south side of the trees and creek.
