The YVAS program this Thursday, Oct 24, will feature Pacific Northwest mammals brought to life through the superb photographs of Jim Christensen.  Jim co-authored (along with Earl Larrison) the book , "Mammals of the Pacific Northwest."  As a photographer, Jim has patented patience and uses an uncanny ability to anticipate action and then capture it.  His passion and endless inquisitiveness  for the natural world has earned him the reputation as an expert in birds, plants, mushrooms, and butterflies.  In fact, the very first "Butterflies of Washington" was authored by Jim.
An accomplished artist, seventy-three of Jim's pen and ink drawings were included in "Mammals of the Pacific Northwest.  As to the quality of the drawings consider this quote from
Jeannette G. Turcotte, of the Art Box Gallery in Georgia:  "All the prints are testaments to Mr. Christensen’s expert drawing technique, his strength as a graphic artist and his understanding of his subjects: their behavior & environment. The drawings allow the viewer to meet the subjects eye to eye and appreciate their daily struggles for survival."
Jim will bring a selection of his prints to the presentation with proceeds of sales going to the YVAS.  Any of them would make a memorable Christmas gift for a loved one and/or you may want to gift yourself at this unique opportunity.
While gifted and knowledgeable, Jim's laid-back style and sense of humor will surely make this a memorable
Jim, is a graduate of the University of Idaho where he majored in zoology.  Mr. Christensen received his master’s degree in biology from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.  It took a tornado to "lift" the Wizzard of Oz's Dorothy and Toto out of Kansas; fortunately for us, Jim elected to return home to the Pacific Northwest.
Come join us Thursday, Oct 24, 7:00 pm at the Yakima Area Arboretum.  All are welcome.
      Hope to see you there,
