      full press release

      The Film "Pure Sweet Hell"
      Thursday - May 12 , 2005
      Washington DC Screening Premier

      For immediate release:

Few people know the red-headed stepchild of the bike racing world:
cyclocross. Without having witnessed, or better yet participated in,
this initially strange-seeming sport that resembles a muddy ballet,
you might wonder why in the world folks would want to subject
themselves to a heap of abject misery and anaerobic suffering, taking
a perfectly good (and most likely highly expensive) custom bicycle
and running around in the mud with it on their shoulders. Sound
confusing? This is what cyclocross is all about.

PURE SWEET HELL, a documentary by Brian Vernor and Willie K. Bullion,
explores the passion, pain, and pleasure of cyclocross racing, while
providing an intimate view of the kinship and clashes that comprise
this unique "discipline" of cycling. Through creative cinematography
and eclectic, original music, this hour-long film captures the
essence of what makes cyclocross, its culture, and its community such
      a distinctive movement.

Featuring footage from North American cross strongholds such as
Portland, Gloucester, Napa, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Tacoma, and
Olympia, and featuring cross luminaries Justin Robinson, Gina Hall,
Barry Wicks, Rick Hunter, Thomas Frischknecht, and Mike Ferrentino,
the film's aim, as Vernor explains, is to "educate people who don't
already know about the sport, and reflect American cyclocross racing
as we see it: a contradiction of pain and goodness, which just isn't
      for everyone."

The Bike Lane Bicycle Shop http://www.thebikelane.com/),703.440.8701,
and Potomac Velo Club (http://www.potomacvelo.com/), both of
Northern Virginia, are proud to bring Pure Sweet Hell to the
Washington DC region for a one-time screening at the Cinema Arts
      Theatre in Fairfax, VA.
