Group Description

Welcome to the Big Park Picture, an Upper East Side parks watchdog and newsgroup.

Parks are for People. Decisions affecting our local parks should be made on behalf of the people and not based on political gain. The Big Park Picture works to keep PARKS for PEOPLE by keeping the community aware of and up-to-date on decisions and actions that affect our UES parks.

The former name of this group was BigDogRun.

--Plans are still in the works to rennovate Pavilion Park that include the installation of a raised platform lawn, removal of the park gates and (most unfortunately) for removal of the very popular Pavilion Park Dog Run. A 6/29/2012 DNA article provides misinformation regarding Pavillion and Haswell Green parks including:
>>That the Pavillion dog run is a recent unofficial happening (it has been there 20 years)
>>That the termite damage to pilings beneath the esplanade is a new discovery. (It has been known for 20 years and repairs have already been made under the Pavillion and in Sutton Place.)

--The Carl Schurz Park Conservancy, a former not-for-profit 501(c)3 was investigated for Tax Fraud. Notice I wrote "former". They lost thier status as a tax exempt status. In 2005 & 2006 they claimed they owed no taxes because they were a CHURCH! (Manhattan Parks Commissioner, Bill Castro, sat on the Board of the Conservancy at that time).
--July 2010: Carl Schurz big dog run reopened. Despite the failure of the crushed stone surface in Haswell Green Park, the powers that be installed the same surface at that run.

There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest. -- Elie Wiesel
