Group Description

This is a discussion group about Trans-Mississippi Theater of the American Civil War. The areas of focus are the states of Minnesoda, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Texas, and Louisiana. The Western parts of Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, and all of Illinois are open for discussion in connection with the Civil War West of the Mississippi River.

Why am I making this group? In most classes, books, and movies the Trans-Mississippian Theater is give like notice. The focus seems to be on one of three areas:

1.) Eastern Theater in the states of Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virgina, and Virginia.

2.) Western Theater in the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinias.

3.) The War at Sea involving the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico coasts as well as fighting on the high seas.

The fact that the Civil War fought West of the Mississippi is often neglected is tragic. The only battles that get a brief mention from this theater is Wilson's Creek, Pea Ridge/Elkorn Tavern, and New Orleans.

Yet, the Trans-Mississippi Theater is just a dramatic, tragic, and important as the other areas of fighting. Think of how the war might have changed if the Confederacy had taken and held Missouri. What if the Confederacy had taken part of California like it plan? The South campaign terminated at a battle in New Mexico.

Learn and discuss about the many other aspects of the Forgotten Theater of the American Civil War.

RULES:

There are not many rules, but the few I have are need to for the group to run smoothly and peacefully.

1.) No profanity unless you are quoting and then you need to not where the quote was found.

2.) Stay on topic. All messages must be on the group's topic.

3.) No politics unless it was between 1800-1890 and about the Civil War or Reconstruction.

4.) Support your claim! Reference books, magazine, website, etc that supports your words.
