Race of the Week - BRRC Dreaded Druid Hills 5 Miler
A low-key race by runners for runners

Can you handle the dreaded Druid Hills? Well? You better be able to if you
are even contemplating the Baltimore Marathon.

After much discussion, about three seconds worth, we decided to convert the
8K to a five miler because that is where the measuring wheel stopped on the
criterium course. Hope the extra 45 yards doesn't discourage anyone.

The course: Start at the bottom of the Mansion House, run around the
Mansion House loop, left on the main drive (mile 1), left into the Safety
City area, then bear left into the back road behind the Zoo. Mile 2 is at
the bottom of the first hill. Mile 3 is a bit before before the turnaround.
Mile 4 is, well, our landmark is a big fallen branch that's been stuck in
the zoo's chainlink fence for a long, long time. Last half mile is flat out
to the Moorish Tower overlooking Baltimore City and the harbor.

The scenery: absolutely FANTASTIC!!! - that is, if you can hold your head up
long enough to enjoy it:-) You will be able to enjoy the sights of the city
      at the finish!

Where to park? Suggested parking is by the tennis courts and basketball
courts over by the swimming pool, and then walk or run to the start area
about half a mile away. This will put you in close proximity to your
      vehicle from the finish line.

Facilities: Water fountain at the tennis courts. Restrooms at the
basketball courts will be open. There will be two port-a-pots at the
      starting line.

Awards: inspired by another event model, there will be numerous awards based
on participation levels, with various winners able to select from post-race
relaxation shoes (lots), key chains, water bottle carriers, T shirts,
reflective devices, trail shoes, and more.

Registration: pre race day is $10 and includes a pair of double layer
CoolMax socks with a retail value of about $8. Plus food? How can you go
wrong? On line they will charge a slight processing fee over the ten bucks.
Race day is $15. Or, you can come by the Falls Road Running Store and
register in person, 6247 Falls Road, Baltimore, 21209, 410.296.5050.

On line registration is available at:
