Application to test the Macabi Skirt
- O.K. here's my application to test the Macabi skirt. I have read the
latest version of the survival guide (1202) and I agree to abide by the
rules. Shane has my signed testers agreement on file.

City, State, Country: Bakersfield, California, U.S.A.
*Backpacking Background*: I have been in the outdoors since I was a
toddler. My mother introduced me to backpacking when I was in the
backpack. I in good turn joined the Boy Scouts to get away from Mom on
the weekend hikes. My first backpack trip with the Boy Scouts was down a
dirt road to a park and camp sight. That was my last trip with the Boy
Scouts. Since then I have been backpacking mostly in the Sierra Nevada’s.
I have been a professional river guide and kayak instructor for the last
11 years, however, I currently work at a family establishment in
Bakersfield, California. Working a “Real Job” keeps me away from the
outdoors a bit more than I would like. My summers are busy between city
work and river guiding. Much of my packing is done on the river in the
summer. This has driven me to long winter trips and short summer trips
for the last several years. I took up snow shoeing to help get into
winter packing. I have found that less is often more in my backpacking
and my summer trips I find myself as happy in a pair of Chacos carrying
my pocket knife as I do with a heavy pack and big boots.
A Sarong is my clothing of choice while backpacking. A sarong is very
adjustable, very comfortable, and very easy when I have to pee. A sarong
has some disadvantages like no pockets, well thats all that comes to
mind at the time but I'm sure there are a few more. I would like to
submit that I can and will do an excellent job of testing this skirt. I
will wear this skirt on the river in the forest and to the ocean. I want
to see if the Macabi Skirt can replace or at least keep up with my
My test plan is simple. I will be guiding commercially part time this
season, I will be backpacking every free moment I get and I will be
guiding folks through remote wilderness trips during the next six
months. I will also be guiding several overnight rafting camping trips
on the Kern River over the next six months. I will use the Macabi Skirt
as my garb of choice while doing all of these things. I will wear this
skirt at camp and on the water testing just how functional it is.
The Macabi skirt appears to have great flexibility in it's use. Many
different configurations are possible for the many different conditions
we experience in life. I want to know it the skirt works as well as the
web sight saris it does. I am actually quite excited about this garment,
I have not been excited about a piece of clothing like this since I
found the sarong.
If selected for this test I will use the Macabi Skirt as my primary
river garb during the entire season. I will replace my sarong with the
Macabi skirt in my backpack for the next six months. I will wear the
Macabi skirt around camp and along the river. I will wear the Macabi
skit in every configuration I can imagine and I will use every feature I
can find, and utilize. I will fit into a Mens-Small Regular length, I
like the Caribbean, Charcoal would be my second choice but any color
would do really.
